Deputy Director of the Advanced Warning and Response Network (AWARN) Alliance, Fiona James has helped build a coalition to develop the most advanced emergency alerting system in the world using the ground-breaking technologies in Next Gen TV. The AWARN Alliance is comprised of broadcasters, trade associations, national and international technology vendors and consumer electronics manufacturers.

Through her extensive research on effective alerting and with multi-stakeholder input – including expertise from NCMEC – Fiona has been pivotal in the design concept for the user interface (UXUI) for Next Gen alerts. She has also been instrumental in building the inter-industry and governmental relationships required for this revolutionary new system to be a success.

In addition to her work with the AWARN Alliance, Fiona serves as media and technology consultant at Convergence Services, Inc. (CSI). In this role Fiona provides expert analysis, research, and communications on a range of issues, including spectrum policy and monetization with a focus on Next Gen TV.

A native of Scotland, Fiona’s experience includes education, arts administration, and business, and she worked as a technical sales adviser for Britain’s BSkyB during the satellite operator’s conversion from analog to digital. Fiona is an accomplished Pilates instructor, who brings her focus on technique and motivation to her professional life. Fiona lives in Alexandria, VA, with her husband and two young children.
