Bio
Richard Westcott, well-respected broadcast technology and workflow expert, is founder of Westcott Tech, a broadcast, media and entertainment consulting and project management firm specializing in studio, facility & content delivery design and build. Prior to launching Westcott Tech, Richard spent over 35 years with NBC, holding a variety of roles within broadcast television, network technology and production, from TD, editor to VP of Broadcast Technology for KNBC/KVEA, NBC’s O&O Los Angeles market stations.

Of Richard’s most recent accomplishments, he designed and built state-of-the-art facilities for KNBC and KVEA in Los Angeles. The Brokaw News Center opened February 2014 as the first of its kind shared network facility, supporting not only local KNBC, KVEA and NBC Network News, but including support and connectivity for Universal Studios sound stages and broadcast studios. Under Richard’s leadership, the build team created new, more efficient workflows and signal chains to advance NBC’s broadcast capabilities. In addition, to ensure quality delivery in all aspects of the facility, Richard worked with architects, engineers, finance and outside vendors, maintaining ongoing communication dealing with every aspect of the build through project completion.

Prior to the Brokaw News Center, Richard led the design & launch of NBC/Telemundo’s first fully automated Live News Production environments in two studios and in two languages, leveraging production automation for audio, lighting, switching, robotics, media playback, display and augmented reality. The project is considered by many as the most advanced live television automation project to date, delivering an amazing 50-60 hours of live automated news programming per week; all in a higher quality, more consistent look and a truly dynamic real-time breaking news environment.

In 2004, Richard helped lead the NBC TV Stations HUB projects. This Central Casting project was completed in 18 months and tied 14 TV stations in regional HUBs saving millions of dollars in operational expense annually. The project was so well regarded, it has been expanded and is now in its 3rd generation. Additional highlights of Richard’s career also include creation of NBC’s Art House, a centralized graphics facility initially created as a graphic resource hub for the NBC O&Os in Texas, then expanded to Rockefeller Center include NBC News and Saturday Night Live.

Richard launched Westcott Tech in 2018 to take what he has learned and expand upon it with new partners and new challenges, such as; ATSC 3.0, 5g, & SMPTE 2110 just to name a few. Looking to work together to leverage these coming platforms to build your business.
