Over the last thirty years, Jonathan has held a broad range of executive, engineering and technical management roles in broadcast and media organizations. After receiving a BSc with Honors in Control, Instrumentation and Systems Engineering from the City University, London UK, he started his career spending 7 years with a systems integrator in the US. Jonathan then spent 17 years on the manufacturer side holding roles from product manager to VP of Engineering to CTO, covering many areas from sales support to R and D. Following this Jonathan spent nearly ten years on the customer side with ESPN developing and leading the technology and systems strategy for their IP production initiatives achieving several world firsts in the use of IP in the broadcast industry. This experience puts Jonathan in a unique position to develop strategies that leverage emerging platforms and technologies to help customers with new business challenges and opportunities.

Some of these keys achievements recently include:

• Developed the concept, vision and led the technology team of ESPN’s new DC2 facility, the first Ethernet based broadcast production facility in the world, DC2 infrastructure provides scalability over 50 times greater than traditional technologies have allowed. The facility is completely format agnostic and capable of supporting both broadcast and digital media requirements. DC2’s success was recognized by Disney with an innovation award given to individuals only once or twice per year across the entire enterprise.
• Developed the concept, vision and led the engineering team for ESPN’s AS-IS project, a new ingest infrastructure capable of scaling up ingest of live sporting events from the current 88 to 200 and later 400 feeds with over 10 times the storage of media for production. Based on COTS networking and storage technology all with a major cost advantage over technologies available at the time.
• From 2007 – 2010 based out of ESPN in Los Angeles. Built the first entirely 3G production facility in the US. ESPN’s first totally routable facility, this was a major success and laid some of the key principles that lead the DC2 initiative.
